seen Om and Lichens in concert today.
Lichens was fine and pretty but a little bit boring . I love his albums and was kind of disappointed. Something was missing, intensity or something. Still pretty and a good gig overall Om was fucking incredible. Hypnotic, intense, shivering, simply mindblowing. Their drummer is MAD. Really really really great. Next gig: SUNN O))) . I can't wait |
Was Lichens the backup band? A lot of times the backups don't get a fair shake from the headliner's board man. Keeping their foot off the volume and accenting certain instruments in certain places.....
He was the opening artist - he plays alone though and I think he mixes everything himself, so I'm not sure the technicians are responsible in this case, especially since he seems to be good friends with Om (they played together too, and they're doing the whole tour like this)
Saw Sunn O))) for the first time in my life yesterday. It was awesome, as you can guess.
ok. maybe he was sick and lacked the physical energy you've seen in his performances before?
Yeah, maybe. I've actually never seen him before though, but I was told he ruled two days before, so perhaps he's just hit or miss, I don't know. I think maybe he'd be better in a smaller venue. The venue was around 600 persons capacity, so his sound didn't quite fit the whole space, maybe in a smaller room it would be much more impressive. I'll still go to see him if he ever plays there again
i'm looking forward to the afternoon spent on a train ... I have a P.K.Dick book in my backpack, which is never a bad thing.

well, greece is the ideal place for a trip like this, isn't it? i guess many islands are not that tourist-packed, even moreso regarding it's not tourist season now. |

if you dig the can Ox album then you should definately check the first 2 wu albums and the first solo records of the memebers, especially tical by method man and return to the 36 chambers by ODB. its just pure awesome bliss!!!! |
I've actually already listened to the first Wu Tang album! Dope indeed. I've also checked Blackout by Meth Man & Redman and enjoyed it. Have you received my message on last.fm?
GZA's Liquid Swords. You won't regret listening to it.
Derek is very right on this one. "Swordsman" is my favourite and I actually listened to it earlier today on my way from the dentist's
Liquid Swords, Living In The World Today, Labels, 4th Chamber and my personal favourite B.I.B.L.E. are totally rad.

I was flying back to here from Guatemala and I needed the toilet. Anyway this guy Dennis Haysbert was coming out the bog as I was walking in and he said to me he says "Brother............I'd give it a minute there." He walked off but I was gasping so I went in and............PHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOW! Smelt like he'd crapped out a rotten zebra. Blood and ichor and sheet everywhere. I say it was Dennis Haysbert, it certainly looked like him.
fuuuuck...i have a gig upcoming this wednesday and I've had this evening just for myself and making music. no duties, no things to do, just music.
and as the hours pass by, i feel totally blocked and i'm coming up with NOTHING worth saving and using. damn. |

-- second mock exam for cambridge's certificate in advanced english tonight... it's the writing part (we got five parts: reading, writing, use of english, listening, speaking ; the reading was easy), i hope it'll turn out well. The real exam is on next saturday... |
I am a little bit sick at the moment. and I have to do some theory work to do, which fits nice. staying at home/bed writing boring stuff and listening to music. hope I will got some time soon to record some stuff again, missing that.
and I am thinking about buying a suit for about 100$. which is pretty cheap cause it fits perfectly and I am sure there will be a day where I will need one again (btw and I love suits) |
bought two fish this morning and i feel pathetic. my days are so empty i need them to stare at.

i'll have to record a whole conceptual album bout that. |
just received my copy of robert logan's inscape (by the way nicfit thanks for recommending it to me a while ago!). i won it in a ebay auction, brand new, for 5€ instead of 27 on amazon... i'm super happy.
have a good day everyone! |

okay, now let us hear what you've created with these babies.
i'll sure let you hear that when i'll have some proper tracks written. As I've just began using Ableton Live I am yet to master it completely, but I have some rough drafts getting written. I'm trying to do something that sounds quite aquatic, and quite noisy/ambient. I'll see and let you hear how it turns out for sure! It might be quite slow though as I do not have a lot of time for myself because of school. I've got 100 pages of history to learn before monday (obviously we haven't seen them in class...), and then a philosophy oral to prepare, 20 minutes to talk on "Illusion & error", on wednesday. Great.
how can you define "sounding aquatic"?
ahah, i don't know. it's just something i have in my head... like, harmony in blue ii by tim hecker certainly sounds aquatic to me, if that makes sense. Or, in another style, Bad Science by Rustie... There's something about the sounds, I can't say exactly what, that makes it feel like it's played underwater or something.
It wouldn't sound like Tim Hecker though since there's beats in what I do but you get the idea |
